Director:
Jill
Binkley, Physical Therapist
Jill Binkley is director of TurningPoint and a breast cancer
survivor. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from University
of Toronto in 1979 and her Master’s Degree in Clinical Science
from University of Western Ontario in 1984. She has over 20
years experience in orthopaedic physical therapy and manual
therapy and has taught undergraduate and post-graduate physical
therapy courses for 15 years. She is a Fellow of the American
Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy and Canadian
Association of Manipulative Therapy.
Jill is a clinical researcher and has published extensively in
journals including Physical Therapy, Journal of Orthopaedic
Physical Therapy and Spine. The topics of her publications
include connective tissue changes with immobilization,
measurement of impairment and outcomes in physical therapy and
evidence-based practice. Jill is a member of the oncology
section of the American Physical Therapy Association. She has
presented nationally and internationally on breast cancer
rehabilitation.
Boardmembers:
John Guzowski, CPA, Treasurer
Mr. John Guzowski, CPA, is administrator at Peachtree Spine
Physicians in Atlanta. He
has extensive experience in providing financial and
advisory services in the healthcare, telecom and technology
industries. After graduating from the University of Southern
California with a BS in Accounting, he worked with public
accounting firms including Deloitte & Touche. More recently he
co-founded Cornell CFO, an interim CFO and consulting firm that
worked with venture backed and publicly traded technology and
biotech companies. He has served as the Treasurer of Hands on
Atlanta, the VP of Finance at MediZeus and a teacher of courses
on non-profit accounting at the Non-Profit Resource Center.
Marcia Pearl, PT, PhD
Dr. Marcia Pearl, PT, PhD, is a breast cancer survivor and a
physical therapist who has been engaged in practice for 35
years. She is a Physical Therapist at TurningPoint and former
Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy at Georgia State
University. Dr. Pearl is recognized nationally and
internationally for her expertise in physical therapy
management, administration and wound care. She has been a Vice
President of a large urban acute care hospital and Southeastern
Regional Director for a nationwide provider of therapy services
to skilled nursing facilities. Dr. Pearl is actively involved in
the community; she provides pro bono services for the Good
Samaritan Clinic in Atlanta, and for migrant farm workers in
Colquitt County Georgia. She has been President of the Physical
Therapy Association of Georgia and is currently President of the
Georgia Society of Health Professions. She is the GSAHP
representative to the Georgia Department of Community Health,
Healthcare Workforce Advisory Board.
Beverly Booth
Beverly Booth is
a native Atlantan and is an account manager for The Laurus
Group, a fund raising and consulting firm. She founded and
organized Dragon Boat Atlanta and has spearheaded the
recruiting and training of participants and the fundraising
for the organization. Beverly is a seven year breast cancer
survivor. She volunteers on many levels with American
Cancer Society, Atlanta 2-Day Walk, Casting for Recovery,
Gilda's Club, and other non-profit organizations. In
addition to the TurningPoint Women's Healthcare Board,
Beverly serves on the board of the Hong Kong Dragon Boat
Festival.
Scott Witzigreuter
Scott Witzigreuter is a civil and construction litigator with
Weinberg Wheeler Hudgins Gunn & Dial in Atlanta, Georgia. He is
a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Atlanta Bar
Association. Scott was named Gerogia "Rising Star" by Super
Lawyers Magazine in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Scott graduated from
University of Georgia School of Law in 1999. He is married with
one son. Scott's mother is a breast cancer survivor.
Advisory Board:
Barbara Feltman, PT
Ms. Feltman received her training in Physiotherapy at the
Western Australian Institute of Technology. She has extensive
experience as a clinical instructor and has worked in a variety
of therapeutic capacities in Australia, London, Israel, New York
and Indianapolis. Ms. Feltman has specialized in pediatric
therapy, orthopedic therapy and women's health physical therapy.
Since 1991, Ms. Feltman has devoted her time to the treatment of
patients with breast cancer, lymphedema, musculoskeletal
problems of pregnancy and post-partum, and Fibromyalgia. She has
written numerous articles for physical therapy publications, and
her booklet ‘What You Need to Know About Lymphedema After Breast
Cancer’ has been published by the American Cancer Society. Her
post-graduate courses on ‘Therapeutic Management of Lymphedema
of the Upper and Lower Extremities’ have been sponsored by a
number of large facilities, and by the American Physical Therapy
Association. Ms. Feltman has also presented at medical
conferences and other national meetings for health professionals
on a variety of facets of lymphedema management. She is adjunct
faculty at IUPUI, and is a guest lecturer at University of
Indianapolis Krannert School of Physical Therapy. She is a
member of the American Physical Therapy Association and it’s
Oncology and Women’s Health Sections, the National Lymphedema
Network and the International Society of Lymphology. She has
developed instructional home lymphedema management videotapes to
therapists and patients, and has published a CD-ROM for health
professionals.
Susan Harris, PT, PhD
Dr. Harris is a Professor in the School of Rehabilitation
Sciences at University of British Columbia. She received her
B.Sc. in Physical Therapy from Russell Sage College-Albany
Medical College and her M.Ed. and Ph.D. form University of
Washington. Susan has published extensively in the area of
pediatrics, evidence-based practice and cancer rehabilitation
and is an internationally recognized speaker. She is Editor of
Physiotherapy Canada and serves as Editorial Board Member for
Physical Therapy.
A two-time breast cancer survivor, she was an original member of
"Abreast in a Boat", the world's first Dragon Boat team
comprised entirely of women living with breast cancer. Dr.
Harris is lead author of the Canadian clinical practice
guidelines on management of breast cancer-related lymphedema as
well as upper extremity guidelines for management after breast
cancer surgery, both published in 2001. Another area of research
interest and involvement is enhancing communication between
persons living with cancer and their health care providers.
Pamela Levangie, PT, DSc
Dr. Levangie joined the faculty of Sacred Heart University in
1996 as one of the founding members of the problem-based
learning curriculum for Master of Science in Physical Therapy
program. Prior to this, she was a member of Boston University’s
physical therapy faculty for 23 years, serving as Program
Coordinator for the Master of Science in Physical Therapy
Program for 12 years. Dr. Levangie received her Master of
Science with a concentration in Physical Therapy from Boston
University, and her Doctor of Science in Epidemiology from
Boston University’s School of Public Health.
Dr. Levangie has published extensively and is co-author of the
kinesiology text, Joint Structure and Function: A Comprehensive
Analysis, a staple text in many physical therapy curricula now
in its third edition. She serves as a curriculum consultant to
other PT programs on kinesiology and research content and on
problem-based learning, also presenting regionally and
nationally in these areas.
Dr. Levangie serves on the Editorial Board of Physical Therapy
and Physiotherapy Research International. She received Sacred
Heart University’s Faculty Scholarship Award in 1999, and was
the 2001 recipient of the American Physical Therapy
Association’s Baethke-Carlin Award for Excellence in Academic
Teaching.
A survivor of breast cancer, Dr. Levangie is pursuing her
research interest in the area of long-term effects of surgery
and radiation on shoulder complex function, publishing and
speaking regionally and nationally on the topic. |
